Coloma After the Orchards Close: What's Still Open Into December

October 29, 2026

Coloma's harvest season ended early this year, and the weekend calendar runs on for another six weeks. A short tree-fruit crop shut the first farm market in mid-October. From now until about the middle of December, a handful of tasting rooms, the public library and one booster-club bazaar carry the local weekends, and most of them have posted dates.

Between the last hayride and the point where Coloma goes quiet for winter, most Saturdays already have something on them.

The fruit ran out first

Fruit Acres Farm Market at 3452 Friday Road closed first. On October 13, the market posted on its website that "U-PICK is not open due to a limited tree fruit crop this season." The same post set October 16 through 18 as the market's last weekend, open Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The market describes a season that opens in June with strawberries and blueberries, and apples arrive in October. In 2026, apples and pears were on the stand only for that final weekend, along with cider, mums and homegrown pumpkins.

Jollay Orchards lasts a little longer. Its fall-hours page lists a season of August 28 through November 1, with the market open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and fall U-pick from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Fall at Jollay means apples, grapes, pumpkins, hayrides, a haunted house, cider and apple-cinnamon donuts. November 1 is this Sunday, so Halloween weekend is Jollay's last posted weekend. The page doesn't print a year, so call before you drive out.

After that, Coloma's calendar moves off the farms and into a few rooms that stay open into December.

Every dated weekend through December 12

Most of what's planned in Coloma through mid-December falls on Saturdays, and Filkins Vineyards at 6991 Ryno Road holds most of them. The winery is open from April 1 to mid-December, not year-round. Its 2026 events page reads like a countdown to closing day.

  1. Saturday, November 7. Filkins hosts its Fall Artisan Market with the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck. The same day is the winery's Wine Club Pick Up Party. A St. Joe Today listing says the market is free and runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with wine, mulled wine, hot chocolate and vendors.
  2. Saturday, November 14. This is the busiest day on the calendar. The Coloma Public Library sets up a model train and town display in its Community Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with free popcorn while it lasts. Out at Filkins, local grower Blue Star Blooms leads a holiday wreath workshop, and Kody Bryant plays a free show.
  3. Sunday, November 15. Comet's Holiday Bazaar runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Coloma Intermediate School, 274 S. West St. The event listing names Coloma Boosters – The Comet Crew as the organizer. It's a returning event. The Tri-City Record covered the 2025 edition, held November 16 in the Alwood Gymnasium at the same address, with vendors, crafters, raffle items and a bake sale.
  4. Saturday, November 21. Kim Bollman teaches a chainmail ornament class at the Coloma Public Library at 10:30 a.m.
  5. Thanksgiving week. Filkins' calendar shows the winery closed Monday through Thursday, November 23 through 26.
  6. Tuesday, December 1. This is the one weeknight event. Michell and Kirby Guild of Studio 23G lead an Iron Orchid transfers session at the library from 5 to 7 p.m., decorating gift tags, wood slices and glass votive holders.
  7. Saturday, December 5. Kody Bryant plays a free acoustic holiday set at Filkins.
  8. Saturday, December 12. Filkins has acoustic holiday music from 1 to 4 p.m. and Cousins Maine Lobster from noon to 6 p.m. It's the last event on the winery's 2026 calendar, and it falls right where the "mid-December" closing window begins.

Coloma's off-season starts that week. The library programs are free, and the bazaar is a school booster fundraiser. Between them and Filkins, there's a dated reason to leave the house nearly every weekend between Halloween and the second week of December.

Who's open on a Tuesday, and who isn't

Events cover the weekends. Weeknights depend on regular hours, which vary a lot from one business to the next. Here are the posted hours for the places most likely to be open after the farm stands close:

Spot Where Posted hours Closed
Filkins Vineyards 6991 Ryno Rd. Mon, Wed, Thu 11–6; Fri–Sat 11–7; Sun 12–6 Tuesday
Contessa Wine Cellars Coloma Daily, noon–5 None posted
Moonrise Winery 7785 Hill Rd., Watervliet Fri–Sat 12–8; Sun 12–5 Monday–Thursday
The Waterfront 5713 Beech Ave., Paw Paw Lake Thu 4–9; Fri–Sat 4–10; Sun 4–9 Monday–Wednesday
Lake Michigan Beach Ice Cream & Eatery 6218 M-63 Sun, Mon, Thu 12–8; Fri–Sat 12–9 Tuesday, Wednesday

Tuesday is the thin day. Filkins and Lake Michigan Beach Ice Cream are both closed, The Waterfront and Moonrise don't open until later in the week, and Contessa's posted noon-to-5 window is the only one on the list that covers it. On Mondays, Filkins and Lake Michigan Beach Ice Cream are both open.

A few of these hours need a caution. The Waterfront labels its schedule "2026 Dining Hours" but doesn't post a closing date. It also says operations depend on the season and the weather. Its free lakeside entertainment runs Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, so the dining room is the draw at this point in the year. Lake Michigan Beach Ice Cream's fall hours don't have an end date either. For now, it's serving new fall ice cream flavors and a $10 flight with all four fall flavors plus two of your choice. It also runs weekday lunch specials from noon to 3 p.m. on days it's open. Contessa pours in an Italian-villa-style tasting room overlooking its vineyard valley. A tasting is five 1-ounce pours for $10.

Moonrise's first winter

Moonrise Winery is the newest name on the list and the one with the least history to go on. It opened April 17, 2026, at 7785 Hill Road. The mailing address is Watervliet, but it's a short drive from Coloma. The winery grows nine of its twelve wines on its own 3.5-acre terraced vineyard. It also serves locally produced cheeses and sausages.

Moonrise is coming up on its first off-season, and it hasn't posted winter hours. For now, it's open Friday through Sunday and closed Monday through Thursday. Its events page sends visitors to Facebook for updates, so check there for weekend plans in November and December.

One road note for the Paw Paw Lake side

One crossing near Paw Paw Lake now has a lower weight limit. Since October 2, Berrien County has restricted the Paw Paw Lake Road bridge over the Paw Paw River to maximum loads of 42, 66 and 73 tons. The bridge sits between Paw Paw Avenue and Center Street/Red Arrow Highway, and commercial and truck traffic has to follow the limits or use another route. The county's road update for the week of October 19 still lists the restriction. If you're expecting a heavy commercial delivery on that side of the river, the truck may have to take another route.

Fall in Coloma has a firm end date this year. Most of the stretch from Jollay's last posted weekend to Filkins' final December Saturday is already scheduled. If a wine club pickup or a holiday bazaar has you looking at homes nearby, or thinking about what your own place near Paw Paw Lake could be worth, Joy is glad to walk you through it.
